"Bicycle Love" Response
Bicycle Love by Brianne Goodspeed was filled with the romance of France, adventure of traveling alone, and the timidness of being in a (somewhat) hostile environment. I see persistence as the most evident theme of the story. Goodspeed has some major obstacles, rainning, false directions, French snobbiness, but she doesn't give up. She realizes that part of the fun of a trip is rolling with the punches. If you want predictability, stay at home! Her description is combines with very basic observations and specific details. "When the sun rose, strong and bright, I was already on the road after a quick breakfast of croissants and juice." (Goodspeed 143). Inserting phrases in french also implant the reader into Godspeed’s world. “Tu n’as pas pour, toute seal?” (147).
