White Rabbit Response

I believe that the theme of Holly Keith's essay, "White Rabbit" is the importance of planning when being alone on an adventure. She claims that it was not until she was adventuring alone that she was able to enjoy scaling the white mountains. In the beginning of the essay, Keith explains that its inadvisable to hike alone in the White mountains and then follows this by stating "'I am not with a group'" (Keith 2). I believe that this was an effective way to show that she recognized that it is more dangerous to be alone, but still goes alone as the hike is so important to her that even though there is more danger when she is alone, she continues to go by planning out everything ahead of time. Another place in which Keith used effective language was when she stated that "The hiking was the easy part" (Keith 7). After listing her elaborate process of planning, Keith states that the actual hike was easier as it involved less work than the preparation she does in order to be able to go on the hike.
