"White Rabbit" Response
The theme in Keith's essay is the need for planning and responsibility when traveling alone, especially when the trip is off the beaten path. When her gear malfunctions - "8:25. Not right. This is my gear mistake, a new untested watch, now frozen." (Keith 3) - she has to deal with another complication beyond the struggle of the excursion. Also the essay is practically no dialogue. The only dialogue is very short and sparse, which conveys the awkwardness and isolation of the adventure.
