"Why we Travel" Response

In the essay, "Why We Travel" by Pico Iyer, the reason that resonated most with me came when he stated, "Travel in that sense guides us toward a better balance of wisdom and comparison-- of seeing the world clearly, and yet feeling it truly" (Iyer 1). Iyer continues to state that seeing without feeling is uncaring and feeling without seeing is blind. Overall, I think that this means that travel without feeling or allowing yourself to be affected is uncaring and feeling without seeing/traveling is blind. I think that especially the last part of the quote proves that life without travel is not a full life as you are still "blind" to some experiences or events going on. Similarly traveling is a way to become more aware or in Iyers words, "surrounding ourselves, as in childhood, with what we cannot understand" (Iyer 2). Traveling is a way to become more aware and to learn through our experiences.
