Bicycle Love Theme

One of the themes most central in the story Bicycle Love is to push through. At the beginning of her journey she hit numerous bumps including biking through a thunderstorm and then going all the way to the Chartres Cathedral only for it to be closed. Although she encountered many obstacles by the end of the trip she found herself crying in the airport because she didn't want to go home. She pushed through the hardships of her trip and ultimately fell in love with the experience she had. An easy path doesn't help you grow of find yourself but being forced to push through hard situations does. I found her imagery very effective as it helped you be in the story with her, and example was her description of Dr. Margulis, "wearing a purple backpack and a long skirt, she arrived breathless and smiling"(139). This puts the reader right in the scene with her. Another effective use of language was the French phrases used sporadically through out the essay, it made the story seem more real and put emphasis on the setting of the story not just the events occurring.

Final Essay Proposal

For my final travel essay I would like to continue writing about the trip I took to New York City (it was mentioned in my bad trip essay). I want to share the good parts of the trip, the experiences I had and the places I saw. I loved that trip and loved New York and I would like to further explain that in my essay. Characters in the essay would include myself, my mom, and a few of my friends that came on the trip. We all bonded together over the trip and we still have inside jokes from it to this day. The theme would be about doing things that are unexpected and ending up loving it. The best parts of that trip weren't at the big tourist destinations that we visited, it was the small places that we found and the memories we made there.
